Biography
Under Mohamad’s leadership, Carbonite’s global team is fully engaged in developing and delivering the next generation of data protection solutions. Driven by a passion for technology, Mohamad served as Chief Strategy Officer at Hewlett Packard where he played a pivotal role in the company’s turnaround. At IBM, Mohamad led the creation of the firm’s eight billion dollar business analytics software unit, and at Avaya, he oversaw the company’s two billion dollar services group. He was also the CEO of the Workforce Optimization division of Aspect Software.
Mohamad holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering, a B.A. in History and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. He serves on the boards of iRobot, Oxfam America, WGBH and the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council (MassTLC) and was named the 2018 MassTLC CEO of the Year.

Innovation and disruption are reshaping industries every day. What do you see as the number one game-changer facing businesses today?
The power of data, from both an innovation and security prospective. Being in the data protection and cybersecurity industry, we see first-hand how data is increasingly the most valuable asset of any business. At the same time, there are more and more cyber threats to those assets. These threats range anywhere from human error or a natural disaster, to something malicious like ransomware and other data breaches. This should be top of mind for all business leaders.
Challenges abound in today’s fast-changing business environment. What keeps you up at night?
I mostly sleep well, but the rate of technology change is a constant area of focus.
Even CEOs need downtime. How do you recharge?
I spend time with my family.
