The Future of Impact Investing

The place of impact investing in current portfolios is hard to ignore. Institutions are taking a much stronger stance when it comes to things like ESG, so-called “sin stocks”, and mission-based companies. And given the recent decision by the United States Business Roundtable to expand the primary concern for corporations beyond simply increasing value for shareholders, it appears many companies are paying attention. But impact investing as a definitional term leaves much to be desired, and there is much more to unpack beyond “making the world a better place.” In this panel, we’ll take a deeper dive into impact investing, talk to some top investors about how they’re defining the term for themselves and their clients and peek around the corner to see how some of the latest trends might play out over the near- to long-term.

The Sustainable Finance "Green Rush"

Green bond sales have hit record numbers and the race is on when it comes to the $136 billion green bond market. As banks grapple with a slowdown in traditional engines of growth such as lending and trading, they’re seeking to capitalize on a boom in green finance. Global green bond sales have already beaten last year’s record $135 billion well before the end of 2019, and issuance of the securities has more than quadrupled in the past five years. The sales boom is being driven by corporations and governments raising funds to invest in initiatives to meet largely environmental goals. We’ll sit down with top financiers to take a closer look at this robust market, and whether the momentum can survive the current turbulent monetary climate.
