Emerging Equities

After holding steady for much of the summer, average daily new virus cases jumped higher in emerging markets from late July, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Since the end of that month, the MSCI Emerging Markets Index has lagged the MSCI World Index of developed market shares by almost 3 percentage points. Unfortunately the worst is yet to come – many emerging markets have yet to see infections topping out.

Forward-thinking governments view Covid-19 as an opportunity to dismantle pre-existing growth barriers and re-imagine their economies. This makes for a complicated outlook for Asia’s emerging markets: When will recoveries start? Will China’s economic recovery kick-start regional growth? How about the U.S. election and Fed policy? We gather leading Asia focused EM equity investors to answer these questions and more.
