For CEOs, by CEOs
We are back for our fifth annual Bloomberg Breakaway CEO Summit in New York. This year we are looking at Human Capital – whether it’s your employees, your vendors, your customers, or you as a leader, people are the heart of any successful organization. Finding them, recruiting them, retaining them, retraining them, and creating a deeply ingrained culture of success all require decisive informed leadership. At this year’s summit, we’ll dive deep into a number of topics related to getting the most from your teams, and yourself, as you take your company to the next level of growth.

Breakaway New York 2020 Agenda
Some of the topics and personalities we’ll be digging into at Breakaway New York 2020 include:
- Finding Operational Success at the Intersection of Tech and People with Cathy Bessant — In our opening keynote interview, Bank of America Chief Operating and Technology Officer Cathy Bessant shares her insights on how to unlock the power of a workforce, and the value of using the right tech tools in the right ways to get the most out of your employees.
- Measuring Your Emotional Intelligence with Christian Clerc — In 2019, Four Seasons sponsored a study by Harvard Business Review asking 599 HBR readers their thoughts on Emotional Intelligence (EI). The results show that most companies still follow a culture of hard skills primacy even as data shows that outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills are a “must have” if organizations are going to keep pace with their competitors and the social cultures they inhabit.
- The 5-Generation Workforce with Sue Bhatia — According to Bloomberg reporting, thirty percent of of people aged 65-74 will be employed in the workplace by 2026 alongside younger generations; and recent research shows that offices with many different generations working side-by-side are happier, more productive, and creative. Unlocking the potential of a multi-generational workforce can be a huge impetus for innovation and growth.
- Using AI to Unlock People Power with Brian Garish and Bryan Throckmorton — The veterinary industry is driven by people, yet veterinary professionals are in short supply. Banfield Pet Hospital, the largest general veterinary practice in the U.S., relies on highly specialized veterinary associates to care for pets, serve clients, and stay competitive with leading science and market leadership. As part of its holistic strategy to be an employer of choice, Banfield set out to enable better prediction of the types of drivers that attract, retain and engage talent by partnering with IBM to develop the People Power Index. Using machine learning, the People Power Index examines more than 200,000 individual data records and hundreds of possible drivers, enabling the practice to predict with more than 86% accuracy the top drivers for doctor turnover and address potential issues before they occur.

Bloomberg Live works with sponsors to integrate them into the conference, ideally in a way that augments the delegates’ experience and advances each sponsor’s goals. Bloomberg Live can deliver on a wide variety of goals— thought leadership, V.I.P. client treatment, generating borrowed interest via media (print, online, social), introductions to individual delegates, product demo or showcase, branding, use of conference content or content generation, media relations or other objectives.
At Bloomberg Breakaway, we’re focused on creating a peer community for CEOs and founders. We look forward to hearing from you.
For CEOs by CEOs
Our theme for Breakaway 2018 is the Paradox of Leadership. We normally think of paradox as requiring a tradeoff between competing objectives. But Breakaway leaders are able to transcend these tradeoffs. They turn the OR into an AND, and in so doing, outpace the competition with exponential results. Today’s Breakaway leaders are able to operate globally and locally, achieve speed and scale, standardize and customize, be high-tech and high-touch, be purpose-driven and profit-minded, and honor the past while they create the future.
The Breakaway Summit agenda will feature in-depth, interactive discussions with business luminaries to provide context on trends shaping the environment; executives who are role models for how to transcend today’s tradeoffs; and thought leaders who will reveal the strategies for achieving breakaway performance.
