The Future of Manufacturing:
The New Education Era

Bloomberg will convene c-level executives in the manufacturing industry for a breakfast briefing. The program will feature investors, c-suite leaders, decision makers and influencers who will share their insights on how the digital enterprise is advancing manufacturing and the approach they are taking to address the challenges of digital transformation.

America’s manufacturing revolution is happening now. Trailblazing technologies combined with the ability to measure massive amounts of real time data is transforming economies across the globe and nowhere are the advancements more prevalent than in the industrial sector. The emergence of nanotechnology, automation and robotics has modernized American factories making them, smaller, safer and smarter than their predecessors. But like any technological revolution, the process isn’t always painless. Employment in this sector is stuck at historical lows as old roles disappear and millions of new roles remain empty due to skill shortages.

But new technology doesn't have to mean the loss of jobs because companies need as much human intelligence as artificial. Over the next decade, the US will need to fill 3.5 million manufacturing jobs however; as many as 2 million of these could remain empty because of a skill gap in the sector. America doesn’t have job shortages, we have skill shortages. We’ll take a look at how manufacturing jobs are being redefined, what human skills will be required to manage emerging technology jobs, why it’s important to educate our children and existing employees to tackle the jobs of the future. We’ll talk to business leaders about how labor demographics will have an important impact on a company’s ability to survive and their strategies to compete for talent.
